Welcome to the eCARE blog site!

The eCARE team announces the launching of the eCARE blog site! eCARE stands for e-Commerce And Renewable Energy.

eCARE was initiated in December 2003 in response to the United Nations’ and the Government of Ghana’s vision of utilizing Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in the eradicatation of poverty. eCARE is a Public-Private Partnership composed of Ghana Telecom, Telecom Management Partner, United Nations Foundation, United Nations Environment Program, and Kumasi Institute of Technology and Environment (KITE).

eCARE is accelerating the extension of clean energy and modern telecommunications services to rural and peri-urban users. eCARE accomplishes this by providing loans to rural entrepreneurs to purchase Rural Business Centres (RBCs - see picture above of outside view of eCARE centre) equipped with multimedia computers, a printer, telephones, a complete solar energy system and later Internet services. Ghana Telecom, the main telecommunications service provider in Ghana, is the in-country managing partner of the eCARE initiative. Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) manages the project investment facility. eCARE is setting a standard for sustainable development projects in rural Africa!
